Sassy Sis is really into scooping, sorting, matching, patterning, counting, transferring - all of the great skills a sensory tote helps to develop/practice.<br />
<br />
Like many of my ideas I was inspired by <a href="http://happyhooligans.ca/2012/01/29/our-valentines-candy-shoppe/">Happy Hooligans'</a> post because her ideas are just perfect for little ones and super easy for me to put together!<br />
<br />
<div style="text-align: center;">
Here is what I came up with:</div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-7yWvOYvVyKU/URZ18RsOD8I/AAAAAAAABy8/0TXQ8b3BhSM/s1600/001.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="213" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-7yWvOYvVyKU/URZ18RsOD8I/AAAAAAAABy8/0TXQ8b3BhSM/s320/001.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Nothing is expensive and most of it we had at home:</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
mini heart containers</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
mini heart erasers</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
heart ice cube tray</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
empty baby food jar</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
assorted red/pink/white containers</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Valentine lid container</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
various scoops, tongs, spoons.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
metal mailbox</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
felt hearts</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
pink and red heart table scatter</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
I can tell you all of this was bought at Dollar Tree, Joanne's, dollar section of Target, and Ikea ( ice cube tray) and most was probably bought last year when Valentine's day items were 50% off!</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Sassy Sis was immediately drawn to the tray and spent the better part of the morning playing with it, even inciting the Owl to come and have a look as well. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-CFUirTxv8_o/URZ18KmLMKI/AAAAAAAABy4/zYZr6ReHyQA/s1600/002.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="213" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-CFUirTxv8_o/URZ18KmLMKI/AAAAAAAABy4/zYZr6ReHyQA/s320/002.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Putting together a sensory tote or tray doesn't need to take a lot of time nor does it need to be expensive. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
We'll play with this for the next couple of weeks and then we all of the components will go in a large ziploc bag for easy storage until next February! </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>

Especially in the winter months I like to have an " Invitation to Play" ready for the little ones when they come down in the morning. This is a simple activity - with everything they need to complete activity - laid out for them on a tray. Sometimes they'll walk right by it and not even notice it until later in the day while other times they'll dive right into the activity as soon as they spot it.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Sassy Sis spotted this activity right away and stayed with it for the better part of the morning. She even asked me to replenish it so she could play with it the next day as well.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<b>What's on the tray? </b></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<b><br /></b></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
1. Pipe Cleaners - I had bent some to look like hearts, but neither child was drawn to them.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
2. Various pink, red, white and heart shaped pony beads.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-R6k7tvlgNk4/URWtm5Bl7zI/AAAAAAAABxI/H41X5c8-cn0/s1600/012.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="213" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-R6k7tvlgNk4/URWtm5Bl7zI/AAAAAAAABxI/H41X5c8-cn0/s320/012.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<b>What do you do? </b></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
The little ones will simply string the beads on to the pipe cleaner. I did show them how to bend the end of the pipe cleaner first so the beads wouldn't fall off. This is a GREAT activity for fine motor skills.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-o31a37caYMU/URWttnguJqI/AAAAAAAABxg/I8QohtKA3ak/s1600/013.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="213" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-o31a37caYMU/URWttnguJqI/AAAAAAAABxg/I8QohtKA3ak/s320/013.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-I_zaWGUVJPo/URWts-0A4aI/AAAAAAAABxY/8-c55sHx7Es/s1600/011.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-I_zaWGUVJPo/URWts-0A4aI/AAAAAAAABxY/8-c55sHx7Es/s320/011.JPG" width="213" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
After the kids were done stringing the beads onto the pipe cleaner I helped them twist the two ends together.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-hGEMYPYxHIM/URWtuwTyIEI/AAAAAAAABxo/tVti1PVNygU/s1600/014.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="213" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-hGEMYPYxHIM/URWtuwTyIEI/AAAAAAAABxo/tVti1PVNygU/s320/014.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Then, we just manipulated the pipe cleaner to resemble the shape of a heart. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-vPzsrSg8Fqs/URWtvmOChHI/AAAAAAAABxw/-Feiegig5mo/s1600/015.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="213" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-vPzsrSg8Fqs/URWtvmOChHI/AAAAAAAABxw/-Feiegig5mo/s320/015.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
That's it, easy-peasy - 99% child driven - with just a little help from Mama. Our pile of beaded hearts is growing, but here are some of our first attempts. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-iz0KlrzaiQM/URWtqo_ipUI/AAAAAAAABxQ/YC3dT-UthZg/s1600/010.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-iz0KlrzaiQM/URWtqo_ipUI/AAAAAAAABxQ/YC3dT-UthZg/s320/010.JPG" width="213" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>

Some stories I remember from my childhood while others are new to all of us however, each one is enjoyed. We've been having a blast with our 24 Days of Christmas Stories ( see post <a href="http://snowangelsandpuddlejumpers.blogspot.com/2012/12/24-days-of-christmas-reading.html">here)</a> . Each night we gather around the tree as a family and open one new book from our pile. Each child also gets to pick one book that has already been opened for me to read as well. It is the perfect ending to what usually seems as an always busy day.<br />
<br />
The OWL now is getting into easy chapter books. He is still at the stage where he enjoys having some illustrations in the book. I've pulled our top four Christmas "beginner" chapter books that we've been making our way through:<br />
<br />
1. <b>Stanley's Christmas Adventure</b> - the original Flat Stanley book was a staple in my 3rd grade classroom - however Stanley has expanded his line of books recently so be sure to check them out. In this story the Lambchop family give Santa a helping hand.<br />
<br />
<a href="http://www.amazon.com/Stanleys-Christmas-Adventure-Flat-Stanley/dp/0064421759/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1354846682&sr=8-1&keywords=Stanely%27s+Christmas+Adventure"><img alt="Stanley's Christmas Adventure (Flat Stanley)" src="http://ecx.images-amazon.com/images/I/51pqZH6pnHL._BO2,204,203,200_PIsitb-sticker-arrow-click,TopRight,35,-76_AA300_SH20_OU01_.jpg" /></a><br />
<br />
2. <b>Triplet Trouble and the Runaway Reindeer - </b>Triplet Trouble books are the baby sibling of the Magic Tree House books - three triplets - Ashley, Alex, and Adam usually find some sort of trouble. In this book it is Cleo the Runaway Reindeer ( aka Dog) that is the catalyst for trouble!<br />
<br />
<a href="http://www.amazon.com/The-Runaway-Reindeer-Triplet-Trouble/dp/0590254731/ref=sr_1_sc_1?s=books&ie=UTF8&qid=1354846948&sr=1-1-spell&keywords=Tripelet+Trouble+and+the+runaway+reindeer"><img alt="The Runaway Reindeer (Triplet Trouble)" src="http://ecx.images-amazon.com/images/I/513noFFsmUL._BO2,204,203,200_PIsitb-sticker-arrow-click,TopRight,35,-76_AA300_SH20_OU01_.jpg" /></a><br />
<br />
3. <b>Horrible Harry and the Christmas Surprise - </b>there is always drama in Room 2B with Horrible Harry and his classmates and they don't disappoint with their holiday drama!<br />
<a href="http://www.amazon.com/gp/reader/0141301457/ref=sib_dp_pt#reader-link"><img alt="Horrible Harry and the Christmas Surprise" src="http://ecx.images-amazon.com/images/I/516EH0ptyGL._BO2,204,203,200_PIsitb-sticker-arrow-click,TopRight,35,-76_AA300_SH20_OU01_.jpg" /></a><br />
<br />
4. <b>Oliver Moon's Christmas Cracker - </b>this is one of our favorite new ( to us) series. Oliver is a wizard in training and is always finding some "magical mayhem" in his travels!<br />
<br />
<a href="http://www.amazon.com/Oliver-Moons-Christmas-Cracker-Mongredien/dp/0746077939/ref=sr_1_1?s=books&ie=UTF8&qid=1354847644&sr=1-1&keywords=Oliver+moons+christmas+cracker"><img alt="Oliver Moon's Christmas Cracker" src="http://ecx.images-amazon.com/images/I/517oWNe011L._SL500_AA300_.jpg" /></a><br />
<br />
So if you have a little one who is ready for a bit more then a picture book, but still needs to have some illustrations along the way be sure to check out any of the Christmas themed books we've mentioned - or the other books in their series! Enjoy!<br />

My two had so much fun with their Peppermint Bath Paint, that I knew I needed to gather up the materials to have another Christmas themed tubby.<br />
<br />
Today was the perfect day for our Decorate the Tree tubby. We had our Holiday Jam session tonight with our Music Together group so we did our tubby earlier in the day. I wish I would have caught the look on the little ones faces when I called them upstairs for a surprise and they spotted the tub all ready to go!<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-55QxYjm_qlw/UL63IgKXnvI/AAAAAAAABs8/t_yj6n2KzbE/s1600/010.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-55QxYjm_qlw/UL63IgKXnvI/AAAAAAAABs8/t_yj6n2KzbE/s320/010.JPG" width="213" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
The best part about this tubby was that I had everything I needed at home! I was pleasantly surprised to find out that a wet piece of craft foam acts just like a bath decal - genius! Since my basement is filled with 10+ years of remnants from an elementary classroom I have a sheet or two of craft foam in my stash! In fact, I actually found these pre-cut ornaments and lights from an old craft project. I simply cut out the tree trunk and star. For the tree I used Crayola's washable finger paints. I tested it first to make sure it would indeed wash away and it did!</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
I did make some green peppermint bath paint for the kids by mixing - shaving cream, green food coloring, and peppermint extract together....</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-2-2OUgKp9Xk/UL63dQqU9LI/AAAAAAAABtQ/9sddbtpD9QQ/s1600/013.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="213" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-2-2OUgKp9Xk/UL63dQqU9LI/AAAAAAAABtQ/9sddbtpD9QQ/s320/013.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
And I threw in some package bows to jazz up the bathwater.....</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
( These actually "stuck" to the wall as well when wet.)</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-Cc_XYfJwCpY/UL63Su0Lw0I/AAAAAAAABtI/43itBKkysHA/s1600/012.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="213" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-Cc_XYfJwCpY/UL63Su0Lw0I/AAAAAAAABtI/43itBKkysHA/s320/012.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
The kiddos loved decorating their tree....</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-4p2xO2bzhcg/UL63n0ZsNZI/AAAAAAAABtY/q_Bz66NokpU/s1600/014.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-4p2xO2bzhcg/UL63n0ZsNZI/AAAAAAAABtY/q_Bz66NokpU/s320/014.JPG" width="213" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Who knew tubby could be so much fun!</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Super easy to pull together and just as easy to clean up - simply turn on the shower and the Owl washed it all away for me, leaving no evidence of our tree decorating party behind! </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>

I loved this idea and looked forward to starting this tradition with my two!<br />
<br />
At first I was worried I wouldn't have 24 books to wrap. I knew I had quite a few Christmas books, but 24 is a lot of books. Well I shouldn't have worried because after I picked out my 24 favorites I still had more then enough to fill our bookshelves in our reading area!<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-y43h9IxQjPA/ULtb38YPlvI/AAAAAAAABoA/GDRH75WghvA/s1600/009.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="213" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-y43h9IxQjPA/ULtb38YPlvI/AAAAAAAABoA/GDRH75WghvA/s320/009.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
And even more to bring to each child's room for bedtime stories!! Clearly, there isn't a shortage of Christmas books in this house - the result of 10 years in the elementary classroom and a mother who loves Christmas books! However, if you don't have enough for this year - no worries, visit your local library and wrap their books. Just be sure to unwrap and read them before they are due!<br />
<br />
This year I simply wrapped each book - nothing fancy - and put them in a basket by our tree.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-AdMS5xon0oM/ULtcC-ooODI/AAAAAAAABoM/fa8ORudhZdY/s1600/010.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-AdMS5xon0oM/ULtcC-ooODI/AAAAAAAABoM/fa8ORudhZdY/s320/010.JPG" width="213" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
However, there are many ways to elaborate the wrapping. I love<a href="http://www.amatterofmemories.com/2008/11/christmas-book-countdown-wonderful.html"> A Matter of Memories</a> wrapping below. </div>
<br />
<br />
<div style="text-align: center;">
<a href="http://www.amatterofmemories.com/2008/11/christmas-book-countdown-wonderful.html"><img height="320" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_DAKFsi5bqOU/STLzHEeef0I/AAAAAAAAEtE/LFdTDFXNtVI/s320/IMG_3099.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
At first I thought of adding a number to each book - but then decided against it. The only book that I care when it is read is The Night Before Christmas - which I don't have in the basket yet and won't put in until the end. Adding a number would make it a great advent/Christmas Count Down Calendar! How simple would that be? Maybe next year I will be a bit more organized and will wrap each book, # them and then have a corresponding craft/ornament/activity to go with each book. Guess I won't be wrapping them at nap time on December 1st if I go with that plan.</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
Here are the books I chose to use - I chose a mixture of Christmas and religious books that are geared to the younger crowd.</div>

</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
We had our latest meeting of our Prescchol Arts and Literacy Club yesterday. Our theme this session was baking - and boy did we have a lot of fun!</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
Our routine is finally flowing and the children, even though it is a slightly different group each time, are beginning to know the flow. For the first 30 minutes while everyone is arriving we have activities set up around the house ready for the children and parents to enjoy. Our center activities were:</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
Gingerbread Play Dough - make and decorate your own cookies.</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-4ao1cdiFU3M/ULn63kxYdWI/AAAAAAAABkY/Egliat9j3r0/s1600/034.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="213" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-4ao1cdiFU3M/ULn63kxYdWI/AAAAAAAABkY/Egliat9j3r0/s320/034.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
If You Give a Mouse a Cookie Dice Game - I used this printable number assessment found <a href="http://www.makinglearningfun.com/themepages/MouseIfYouMathIdeas.htm">here</a>. The children would roll a 20 sided dice and then dot the number they rolled on their sheet.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-8Hxpy_vjde8/ULn6rabHppI/AAAAAAAABkQ/vdPxEbXEnzw/s1600/032.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="213" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-8Hxpy_vjde8/ULn6rabHppI/AAAAAAAABkQ/vdPxEbXEnzw/s320/032.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Printable Number Clip Cards - also found<a href="http://www.makinglearningfun.com/themepages/MouseIfYouMathIdeas.htm"> here.</a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-d6BVYKU29tw/ULn7aD4bbpI/AAAAAAAABk0/_h1RT3TAB9E/s1600/037.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="213" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-d6BVYKU29tw/ULn7aD4bbpI/AAAAAAAABk0/_h1RT3TAB9E/s320/037.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
If you Give a Moose a Muffin Counting Game - I found this online as a printable and of course can't find the link again! Children place the numbers in the box and then count out that number of muffins on the plate.</div>
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-y1tVrP62cJo/ULn84QxTkdI/AAAAAAAABmA/MQCIg3vt_Qw/s1600/049.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="213" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-y1tVrP62cJo/ULn84QxTkdI/AAAAAAAABmA/MQCIg3vt_Qw/s320/049.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Kristen, my partner in crime, created this great rhyming game . The children must organize the words by rhyming words.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-pRFrrUeznAg/ULn8rhMo6GI/AAAAAAAABl0/NNEQ-5kQ7PI/s1600/048.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="213" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-pRFrrUeznAg/ULn8rhMo6GI/AAAAAAAABl0/NNEQ-5kQ7PI/s320/048.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Of course since we are in the Christmas season we needed to have a few holiday selections. This sensory project was perfect for not only our club participants, but also their littles. The older kids would pick a tree and then place that number of presents under each tree. The littles enjoyed scooping, sorting, and playing with the little presents and drums, which can be found at Dollar Tree!</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-9dycbfDQC1A/ULn8ggy5W-I/AAAAAAAABls/Nk3UoApRWOM/s1600/046.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="213" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-9dycbfDQC1A/ULn8ggy5W-I/AAAAAAAABls/Nk3UoApRWOM/s320/046.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
And especially for the littles - a cookie sheet covered with some wrapping paper and some present bows with magnets attached!</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-SYulP8ybf5M/ULn7Oe8KkFI/AAAAAAAABks/mW7LQW2ukkM/s1600/036.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="213" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-SYulP8ybf5M/ULn7Oe8KkFI/AAAAAAAABks/mW7LQW2ukkM/s320/036.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
For our first book we read:</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://www.amazon.com/You-Give-Moose-Muffin-Book/dp/0064433668/ref=sr_1_1?s=books&ie=UTF8&qid=1354367590&sr=1-1&keywords=if+you+give+a+moose+a+muffin"><img alt="If You Give a Moose a Muffin Big Book" src="http://ecx.images-amazon.com/images/I/61TKXETQJBL._BO2,204,203,200_PIsitb-sticker-arrow-click,TopRight,35,-76_AA300_SH20_OU01_.jpg" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Then we crafted these adorable cupcake ornaments:</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-vjyRK9kUe5o/ULn8Vtd5cSI/AAAAAAAABlk/0vD9jngdvxE/s1600/044.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-vjyRK9kUe5o/ULn8Vtd5cSI/AAAAAAAABlk/0vD9jngdvxE/s320/044.JPG" width="212" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
I just loved how they came out. I simply hot glued a Christmas ball ornament into a paper cupcake liner. The kids then applied puffy paint, glass beads, and a red pom-pom for the cherry.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
The worked diligently on these....</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-KPPavBzC2Gg/ULn7mdg_a9I/AAAAAAAABk8/2lKgA43BkCQ/s1600/038.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="213" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-KPPavBzC2Gg/ULn7mdg_a9I/AAAAAAAABk8/2lKgA43BkCQ/s320/038.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Our second book was....</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://www.amazon.com/Gingerbread-Baby-Jan-Brett/dp/B0006H0HBE/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1354368095&sr=8-1&keywords=gingerbread+boy+jan+brett"><img alt="Gingerbread Baby" src="http://ecx.images-amazon.com/images/I/61VPX1Y5YWL._BO2,204,203,200_PIsitb-sticker-arrow-click,TopRight,35,-76_AA300_SH20_OU01_.jpg" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
The children were enthralled while Ms. Kristen read about that mischievous gingerbread baby! </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-ZtcGVLUbY88/ULn7y0_AVhI/AAAAAAAABlI/7OPXo0Aie04/s1600/040.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="213" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-ZtcGVLUbY88/ULn7y0_AVhI/AAAAAAAABlI/7OPXo0Aie04/s320/040.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Then we all decorated our very own felt gingerbread men.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-njEgmzalLe0/ULn7894fekI/AAAAAAAABlQ/07B-zrV3NMI/s1600/041.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="213" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-njEgmzalLe0/ULn7894fekI/AAAAAAAABlQ/07B-zrV3NMI/s320/041.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
And two of our finished products.....</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /><a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-V8Op714nK7M/ULoVMnrc53I/AAAAAAAABnA/4xn-tQM0e_c/s1600/005.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="213" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-V8Op714nK7M/ULoVMnrc53I/AAAAAAAABnA/4xn-tQM0e_c/s320/005.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
It was a great morning of learning with friends - of course a bit chaotic at times, but overall a fun productive time! </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>

Last year I made my first handmade calendar, mostly for the OWL whom was 3. We had a blast with it!<br />
<br />
Here is this year's calendar ....<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-yt_e356TX5A/ULYGUSq5_jI/AAAAAAAABiE/hJmxS8MA3BY/s1600/022.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-yt_e356TX5A/ULYGUSq5_jI/AAAAAAAABiE/hJmxS8MA3BY/s320/022.JPG" width="213" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
With 24 individual paper pockets......super simple!</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-hQ_2K5wsArM/ULdKw1ZMs9I/AAAAAAAABjM/LEX7qGnWkJk/s1600/023.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="213" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-hQ_2K5wsArM/ULdKw1ZMs9I/AAAAAAAABjM/LEX7qGnWkJk/s320/023.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
The best part is it made with items I already had on hand:</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
paper pockets ( purchased at Dollar Tree)</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
stickers</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
ribbon</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
clothespins</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Now of course, this calendar will have a one year use, but there are simple ideas out there where you can make a calendar with containers that will last for many years. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<b>Some ideas:</b></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<b><br /></b></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both;">
<a href="http://www.tipjunkie.com/holiday-crafts/christmas/christmas-advent-calendar">http://www.tipjunkie.com/holiday-crafts/christmas/christmas-advent-calendar</a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both;">
<a href="http://prudentbaby.com/2011/11/by-craft/25-adorable-diy-advent-calendars-to-make-2/">http://prudentbaby.com/2011/11/by-craft/25-adorable-diy-advent-calendars-to-make-2/</a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both;">
<a href="http://www.shelterness.com/50-cool-diy-advent-calendars/">http://www.shelterness.com/50-cool-diy-advent-calendars/</a></div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
I decided I wanted our calendar to include activities - but you could very easily make one with a simple trinket/treat inside, or a combination of both. Inside each of our pockets is an activity for us to do that day. Now to make it easier, much easier, on myself I first printed out a blank calendar template for the month. I put each and every event we had planned already for the month on the calendar. This included items such as: trip to Santa's Village, Santa's Land at the GYC, Edaville RR, Visiting Santa, Santa Train,Christmas Party, etc. All of these items will be activities for our calendar. Super simple - using things we already had planned to do.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Using a simple piece of scrap paper with a little sticker decoration I wrote each activity down and placed it in the correct pocket.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-MsN0bCPXNpk/ULYHr32wekI/AAAAAAAABiM/kYptEruPvKA/s1600/024.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-MsN0bCPXNpk/ULYHr32wekI/AAAAAAAABiM/kYptEruPvKA/s320/024.JPG" width="213" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
After the events on my calendar were done I came up with a list of other activities we could do as a family to fill in the rest of the pockets. I made sure I wrote this on my printable calendar page so I knew what I was doing each and every day! Here are some of the ideas:</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Bake Christmas cookies</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Make salt dough ornaments</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Make Applesauce cinnamon ornaments</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Write a letter to Santa</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Watch a Christmas movie and have popcorn</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Decorate Christmas cookies</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Make a gingerbread house</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Go out to see the lights after supper ( Edward St.)</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Deliver cookies to neighbors</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Make reindeer food</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Buy canned food and deliver to food pantry.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Have picnic dinner in front of Christmas Tree</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Make Christmas cards for friends</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Make ornament for tree.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Set up nativity</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Decorate trees</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Play Christmas game</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Put up train around Christmas tree</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
The beauty of this year's calendar is the pocket design - if I need to make a change or adjustment to an activity based on how the day is going, I can simply slip it out to make changes!</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
My plan this year is to take all of the photos from our Advent ideas/activities and make them into a photo book.</div>

What fun ideas! Be sure to check out <a href="http://www.bathactivitiesforkids.com/">Bath Activities for Kids</a> for tons of theme based ideas that can easily be done in your tub.<br />
<br />
Now tubby time in my house is usually daddy time however, when daddy is working late or has a meeting I take over! Adding anything besides two children, a washcloth, shampoo/soap and a few bath toys to the tub would send him RIGHT over the edge so I have to be the one to add in the fun!<br />
<br />
We started off simple, with <a href="http://www.bathactivitiesforkids.com/2012/11/candy-cane-paint-recipe.html">Candy Cane Bathroom Paint/Foam</a>. The best part was I had everything I needed to make this at home: shaving cream, peppermint extract/oil, and red food coloring. <br />
<br />
<div style="text-align: center;">
My two were VERY excited when I presented them with our tubby time addition!</div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-h2LheTUCqPs/ULVzljHjn1I/AAAAAAAABe0/Fi4OG40qQ7I/s1600/002.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="213" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-h2LheTUCqPs/ULVzljHjn1I/AAAAAAAABe0/Fi4OG40qQ7I/s320/002.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
The kids loved painting themselves and each other. Then the OWL practiced painting his name. We took turns saying letters and writing them on the wall. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-paZ1yRcNxu4/ULV2BLtY4wI/AAAAAAAABfY/J0nrh90wk1o/s1600/003.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="213" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-paZ1yRcNxu4/ULV2BLtY4wI/AAAAAAAABfY/J0nrh90wk1o/s320/003.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
As the paint entered into the water it turned our bathtub into a pink and white swirl candy cane of it's own. The kids were ecstatic and the bath room smelled just like Christmas! It was perfect! </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
I can't wait to go back and find some more fun ideas - my two loved it and I'm hooked! </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Looks like I'm in luck for more Christmas/Winter Tub ideas since it is Christmas Week on their site and they will be presenting a different idea each day!</div>

This year my two each have a Christmas tree in their rooms and I know making some ornaments for their trees will be right up their alley. As we were unpacking decorations yesterday they both loved finding ornaments/crafts they had made last year. I've found having a list of ideas and the supplies on hand make it much easier and a lot less stressful for mama! <div>
<br /></div>
<div>
Now, thanks to Pinterest, ideas are SO easy to find. This list is for super easy crafts that preschoolers can do almost, or pretty close to it, on their own. These are ideas that truly for the 2-5 age range and from some of my favorite sites to follow. Hope you find a craft or two to do with your little ones!</div>

Once again we had the meeting at my home, but this time we were a bit more smart in our approach.<br />
<br />
First things first, the playroom was closed! It made the whole event less stressful for me and clean up was a breeze.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

We had many activities set up around the house for kids to participate in while we were waiting for everyone to arrive. I had emailed the mamas beforehand to let them know where the activities would be located and what was available at each station. Kristen and I hope to have these same sort of activities available each session so the kids can become used to going to an activity while waiting to come together as a group. This week we had:<br />
<br />
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
Leaf rubbing plates....</div>

<div style="text-align: center;">
Having the activities available for when the kids came into the house worked wonders - and kept them all engaged until we were ready to begin.</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
Our first book was Fletcher and the Falling Leaves - this was a sweet story about a fox and the changing of the leaves. </div>

<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-YgqIzHH7F8Q/UIyIb6Y9DfI/AAAAAAAABc4/KEdEjARsJZY/s1600/foxleaves.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-YgqIzHH7F8Q/UIyIb6Y9DfI/AAAAAAAABc4/KEdEjARsJZY/s1600/foxleaves.jpg" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
After the story we made collages with "treasures" we had found out in nature. We displayed our treasures on contact paper. We had pieces of scrapbook paper for the kids to use as a border or frame around their collage if they so wished. We then covered over the top of the collage with another piece of contact paper. The end result was a fabulous fall display, perfect for any window in your home. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
( Note: Sassy Sis used her scrapbook pieces as part of her overall collage, not just as a frame!)</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-QO-V8HHuIQg/UIyDQftYZSI/AAAAAAAABas/0xgtUk0Q7Sg/s1600/046.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="213" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-QO-V8HHuIQg/UIyDQftYZSI/AAAAAAAABas/0xgtUk0Q7Sg/s320/046.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Our second book was a perfect book for the little ones to get involved in the story. We read We're Going on a Leaf Hunt - adapted from We're Going on a Bear Hunt. Since the story has a repetitive nature and many lines that lend themselves to hand motions - the kids were thoroughly involved in the story.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-H8ZMW9u8DeE/UIyIZxXzFfI/AAAAAAAABcw/Mxa1Xq6OuDc/s1600/leaves.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-H8ZMW9u8DeE/UIyIZxXzFfI/AAAAAAAABcw/Mxa1Xq6OuDc/s1600/leaves.jpg" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Our project after this book was a tree collage with stamped leaves. We used wine corks for the colorful fall leaves. I found this awesome idea <a href="http://www.thepickyapple.com/blog/2011/10/13/autumn-cork-painting/?utm_source=feedburner&utm_medium=feed&utm_campaign=Feed%3A+ThePickyApple+%28The+Picky+Apple%29">here</a>. Both of my two loved this project - especially using the corks as a stamper.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-bDk7HJzLI60/UIyEmASfTOI/AAAAAAAABbs/C6y8ys7hVuA/s1600/036.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="213" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-bDk7HJzLI60/UIyEmASfTOI/AAAAAAAABbs/C6y8ys7hVuA/s320/036.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-th5-zV_tpe4/UIyEwcveqeI/AAAAAAAABb0/MnH7m8cGrvQ/s1600/037.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="213" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-th5-zV_tpe4/UIyEwcveqeI/AAAAAAAABb0/MnH7m8cGrvQ/s320/037.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Our snack this week was crackers and cheese - the cheese cut out in the shape of leaves, of course! </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-58n3FOEf9JY/UIyNSiWpLOI/AAAAAAAABd0/Mxar4myDYlo/s1600/038.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="213" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-58n3FOEf9JY/UIyNSiWpLOI/AAAAAAAABd0/Mxar4myDYlo/s320/038.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
And we sang some songs - the favorite being:</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<span style="background-color: #ffe2c6; color: #cc0000; text-align: start;"><b>Creative Movement/Song: This Is the Way We Rake the Leaves</b></span><span style="background-color: #ffe2c6; color: black; font-size: x-small; text-align: start;">(Tune: Mulberry Bush)</span><span style="background-color: #ffe2c6; color: #cc0000; text-align: start;"><br />This is the way we rake the leaves, rake the leaves, rake the leaves<br />This is the way we rake the leaves, on an autumn morning<br />This is the way we pick the apples, pick the apples, pick the apples<br />This is the way we pick the apples, on an autumn morning<br />This is the way we feed the squirrels, feed the squirrels, feed the squirrels<br />This is the way we feed the squirrels, on an autumn morning</span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
It was another great meeting of our club! We read, sang songs, did some art, enjoyed some treats, and had fun together. One more week at my home and then we'll be on to having our group at the library meeting room - which I have to admit I'm a bit excited for! Stay tuned, our next session's theme will be PUMPKINS.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>

</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
After our Preschool Arts and Literacy club did a project with painting in a bag I knew I needed to do it again! We decided to make some fall leaves - perfect for decorating our home. For this project all you need are some gallon size plastic bags, assorted paint colors, and full cutouts from cardstock or heavy paper. </div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-SJN3MqOaanQ/UG46_OQDtgI/AAAAAAAABXM/6-9itCJay_A/s1600/022.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="213" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-SJN3MqOaanQ/UG46_OQDtgI/AAAAAAAABXM/6-9itCJay_A/s320/022.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Simply, put your cut out shape in the plastic bag. Then add some globs of paint.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-YL2Wb0DmZKg/UG47GaKBx4I/AAAAAAAABXU/Xv56RxdjeKI/s1600/023.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-YL2Wb0DmZKg/UG47GaKBx4I/AAAAAAAABXU/Xv56RxdjeKI/s320/023.JPG" width="213" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
The the fun begins, all you need to do is spread out, smear, push, and squish the paint all around, trying your best to cover over the entire shape. This turns into a great color mixing activity as well. The best part....the mess stays IN the bag!</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-F8AqtIYRXUw/UG47NsutsXI/AAAAAAAABXc/wkAEzlQ_74s/s1600/024.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="213" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-F8AqtIYRXUw/UG47NsutsXI/AAAAAAAABXc/wkAEzlQ_74s/s320/024.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Now the actual painting portion of this project is mess free. However, the mess does happen when you pull out the shapes, put in a new shape, and add paint. Of course, my little ones had to be part of the switching...and the paint pouring....and well you get it, we got messy!</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Our final products were beautiful - they were a melody of all fall colors.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-vYNlhpSpcHE/UG47Wzd9pdI/AAAAAAAABXk/S6hqhb1_84w/s1600/026.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-vYNlhpSpcHE/UG47Wzd9pdI/AAAAAAAABXk/S6hqhb1_84w/s320/026.JPG" width="213" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
My two LOVE when I use their art work to decorate our home. These were perfect to use to make a garland. All I needed to do was punch a hole in them, string through some ribbon. And now they are part of our fall decoration in our play/school room!</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

I'm a huge advocate of sensory play. I try to always have numerous sensory activities available for my two to enjoy. A fabulous explanation on the benefits of sensory play, with ideas, can be found <a href="http://notjustcute.com/2010/03/24/a-handful-of-fun-why-sensory-play-is-important-for-preschoolers/">here.</a> The two activities I posted about today are simple to create - most use items around the house or which can be found at your local dollar/discount store. They provide hours of creative play for your little ones as well. Sounds like a win:win to me! </div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
Tomorrow we'll have two new sensory activities that are related to the season of fall. First is our sensory tote. The filler for this tote is popcorn kernels and inside are all things fall: pumpkins, acorns, leaves, scarecrows. A simple walk through the Dollar Tree, Michaels, or JoAnns will provide you with numerous low cost items to make your own tote.</div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-LdDkXr7XopI/UGugXZYB1tI/AAAAAAAABV4/seB-lydGjmw/s1600/030.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="213" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-LdDkXr7XopI/UGugXZYB1tI/AAAAAAAABV4/seB-lydGjmw/s320/030.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Totes are easy to put together ,but I know I can always use some inspiration. Here are some ideas for an autumn sensory tote:</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://www.pre-schoolplay.blogspot.co.uk/search?q=autumn#!http://pre-schoolplay.blogspot.com/2011/09/autumn-sensory-play.html">http://www.pre-schoolplay.blogspot.co.uk/search?q=autumn#!http://pre-schoolplay.blogspot.com/2011/09/autumn-sensory-play.html</a></div>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://handmadebeginnings.blogspot.com/2010/09/sensory-bin-autumn_24.html">http://handmadebeginnings.blogspot.com/2010/09/sensory-bin-autumn_24.html</a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
We also will have a new play dough set up. For the past year I've been making my own play-dough. I love to add scent and color to it and let me tell you this Pumpkin Pie play-dough smell delcious. The <a href="http://healthymamainfo.com/2012/10/pumpkin-pie-play-dough/">recipe</a> is easy to follow- in fact the Owl and I made it together today. I wanted it to come out orange, but I'm pretty sure our pumpkin pie spice took over with the coloring. Either way my two are going to love it! </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-ekRe8g-kego/UGugjCv_BpI/AAAAAAAABWA/3lelXj0fovc/s1600/031.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="213" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-ekRe8g-kego/UGugjCv_BpI/AAAAAAAABWA/3lelXj0fovc/s320/031.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
I've included some fall cookie cutters, some rolling pins and 4 plastic pumpkin cups of embellishments: foam leaves, mini pumpkins, fall table scatter, and fall themed confetti. I can't wait to see their creations!</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

My friend Kristin approached me on wanting to host a preschool art club and I immediately thought we could combine the arts and literacy into a fun filled educational opportunity for our preschoolers. As soon as we agreed to combine forces the ideas started flowing and now we have 3+ months of themes, books, activities, songs, and more planned for our new group.<br />
<br />
We had our first meeting today at my home. However, our plan is to host our bimonthly events at the library's community room - no distraction of toys and the playroom - and NO mess for me to clean up! Sounds like a win-win for everyone!<br />
<br />
Our goal is to create a program where we center around one theme which will integrate the arts and literacy. We will have a story, song and/or movement activity, two art projects, theme appropriate snack, a take home activity and either a bound book or a printed book for home. In order to make this all happen we do need to charge $5 per child 2+ years old.<br />
<br />
Today's theme was APPLES.<br />
<br />
We started off with an apple collage activity. After the little ones cut the top of their apple tree out they placed it in a zip lock bag with some paint and went to work squishing and painting it! What a perfect way to "paint" without the mess!<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-CQBArpXrMqA/UGYt5GbvGxI/AAAAAAAABSo/yVaZnsotkHY/s1600/002.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-CQBArpXrMqA/UGYt5GbvGxI/AAAAAAAABSo/yVaZnsotkHY/s320/002.JPG" width="213" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
We also traced the arm and hand of each child onto brown paper. This will be the trunk of the tree. Kids were able to add some texture to the bark with brown crayons. While our tree tops were drying we went and read our book.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://www.amazon.com/Apple-Farmer-Annie-Monica-Wellington/dp/0142401242/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1348873542&sr=8-1&keywords=apple+annie"><img border="0" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-10O9h-5pd2o/UGYtb7kY81I/AAAAAAAABSY/sckheadT97E/s1600/applefarmer.jpg" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Apple Farmer Annie is a great book with bold, bright illustrations. It is perfect as a springboard for an apple discussion with preschoolers. Not only did we all enjoy the book, but we were able to share our apple knowledge with each other as well. This group sure has a lot of apple schema!!</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-9NkxGGvMQ0A/UGYuZxeqABI/AAAAAAAABTA/Bod0LgDn-04/s1600/005.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="213" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-9NkxGGvMQ0A/UGYuZxeqABI/AAAAAAAABTA/Bod0LgDn-04/s320/005.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
After all this sitting Ms. Kristin lead the group in an apple poem and movement activity. She based her activity on the following poem:</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div style="background-color: white; font-family: Arial, Helvetica; font-size: small; text-align: center;">
<b>Apple Tree</b></div>
<div style="background-color: white; font-family: Arial, Helvetica; font-size: small; text-align: center;">
<b><br /></b></div>
<div style="background-color: white; font-family: Arial, Helvetica; font-size: small; text-align: center;">
Way up in the apple tree,</div>
<div style="background-color: white; font-family: Arial, Helvetica; font-size: small; text-align: center;">
Two little apples were smiling at me.</div>
<div style="background-color: white; font-family: Arial, Helvetica; font-size: small; text-align: center;">
I shook that tree as hard as I could,</div>
<div style="background-color: white; font-family: Arial, Helvetica; font-size: small; text-align: center;">
And down came the apples and boy were they good.</div>
<div style="background-color: white; font-family: Arial, Helvetica; font-size: small; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="background-color: white; font-family: Arial, Helvetica; font-size: small; text-align: center;">
After a snack of pretzels and apple juice we headed back to our art projects.</div>
<div style="background-color: white; font-family: Arial, Helvetica; font-size: small; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="background-color: white; font-family: Arial, Helvetica; font-size: small; text-align: center;">
The little ones were able to add all sorts of red objects ( buttons, felt circles, sequins, and pompoms) to their trees to make the apples.</div>
<div style="background-color: white; font-family: Arial, Helvetica; font-size: small; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-1JiDfcvpw0k/UGYva6tdStI/AAAAAAAABTw/eVvPJ449gBI/s1600/011.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="213" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-1JiDfcvpw0k/UGYva6tdStI/AAAAAAAABTw/eVvPJ449gBI/s320/011.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<div style="background-color: white; font-family: Arial, Helvetica; font-size: small; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="background-color: white; font-family: Arial, Helvetica; font-size: small; text-align: center;">
And they were pretty proud of their final product:</div>
<div style="background-color: white; font-family: Arial, Helvetica; font-size: small; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-uXwmlDZOmCA/UGYvwYsgCqI/AAAAAAAABUA/AePQs4-GY_c/s1600/013.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-uXwmlDZOmCA/UGYvwYsgCqI/AAAAAAAABUA/AePQs4-GY_c/s320/013.JPG" width="213" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Kristin also came up with a great apple printing activity. Apple print picture frames. Of course my good friend Pinterest taught me a neat way to cut handles into the apples, which make them much more user friendly for little hands. It's genius, why did I never think of that?</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-Jc37gksbI6c/UGYutiYLxgI/AAAAAAAABTQ/eeKctCbHF5I/s1600/007.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-Jc37gksbI6c/UGYutiYLxgI/AAAAAAAABTQ/eeKctCbHF5I/s320/007.JPG" width="213" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
The kids were able to securely hold on and printed away on their frame!</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-nxYKaec-3kk/UGYvDhjvb0I/AAAAAAAABTg/u2Q4JdUhrMQ/s1600/009.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="213" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-nxYKaec-3kk/UGYvDhjvb0I/AAAAAAAABTg/u2Q4JdUhrMQ/s320/009.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Now all this frame needs is a picture from a trip to an apple orchard, which shouldn't be hard considering we're lucky enough to live in an area with lots of orchards to choose from!</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Lastly, everyone went home with a printed our book from enchantedlearning.com that they can color and read at home with mom or dad.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
It was a great morning of friends, stories and art for both little ones and mamas alike. Our next session is in two weeks, our theme: LEAVES. Looking forward to it! </div>

I've been wanting to try making sensory bottles for awhile now. They have been popping up all over <a href="http://pinterest.com/search/?q=sensory+bottles">Pinterest </a> lately and look like a lot of fun. I knew it would be great fine motor work to make the bottles and some great sensory fun to play with them afterwards. </div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
First things first was to collect what we would need:</div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-20tHK4_WI68/UFvHGRl3okI/AAAAAAAABQg/zm-Bf0QQfhQ/s1600/001.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="213" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-20tHK4_WI68/UFvHGRl3okI/AAAAAAAABQg/zm-Bf0QQfhQ/s320/001.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
<div style="text-align: center;">
<b>Empty water bottles</b> - we used single serve bottles ( thanks Megan!) but I have seen these done with bottles up to 2.0 liters.</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<b>Water</b></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<b>Measuring Cup and Funnel</b></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<b>Craft Objects </b>- sequins, pipe cleaners, pom poms, pony beads, googly eyes, buttons, curled ribbon - I just rummaged around my craft area and found lots of options.</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<b>Glitter and Food Coloring</b> ( Optional) </div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
We filled our bottles half way with water.</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-pMqigIrD1uU/UFvHTkBpOsI/AAAAAAAABQo/V-l6lobwmfo/s1600/002.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-pMqigIrD1uU/UFvHTkBpOsI/AAAAAAAABQo/V-l6lobwmfo/s320/002.JPG" width="213" /></a></div>
<br />
<div style="text-align: center;">
Owl had a good gripe on this. Sassy Sis was a bit over zealous and her first try resulted in more water on the table then in the bottle.</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-TKbisY3OIGc/UFvHeAgFR2I/AAAAAAAABQ0/gT0vws4InRk/s1600/003.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-TKbisY3OIGc/UFvHeAgFR2I/AAAAAAAABQ0/gT0vws4InRk/s320/003.JPG" width="213" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
However, with the help of big brother she was able to figure it out.</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-JpeGJuJjoPk/UFvHpx6snNI/AAAAAAAABQ8/hIg0nW8qSyg/s1600/004.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-JpeGJuJjoPk/UFvHpx6snNI/AAAAAAAABQ8/hIg0nW8qSyg/s320/004.JPG" width="213" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
We then filled our bottles with all of the fun craft items.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-qM4R7wD7w5o/UFvH0nTGpeI/AAAAAAAABRE/xz5DtuqmEVM/s1600/005.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-qM4R7wD7w5o/UFvH0nTGpeI/AAAAAAAABRE/xz5DtuqmEVM/s320/005.JPG" width="213" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Then topped off the bottles with water.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-uLM6WkL61xQ/UFvH_MjcyzI/AAAAAAAABRM/G_Tge7rq_pQ/s1600/006.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-uLM6WkL61xQ/UFvH_MjcyzI/AAAAAAAABRM/G_Tge7rq_pQ/s320/006.JPG" width="213" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
After the little ones were happy with their finished product I simply put a ring of hit glue around the inside of the lid before I twisted it on one final time.</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
And here are the colorful, sparkly finished products! What an easy fun project, that uses items around the house and works on so many fine motor skills while involving sensory play!</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-bvfXpG4pa5g/UFvIWLC0CsI/AAAAAAAABRc/DlxCvqKlGf0/s1600/008.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="213" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-bvfXpG4pa5g/UFvIWLC0CsI/AAAAAAAABRc/DlxCvqKlGf0/s320/008.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>

During our week in the White Mountains we headed up to Bretton Woods ski area. During the summer, 6/23 - 9/23 Bretton Woods offers complimentary rides on their quad ski lift. More information can be found <a href="http://brettonwoods.com/activities/adventure_center/scenic_lift_rides">here. </a><br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-GZ1F_ULGpJU/UFqK96QLoJI/AAAAAAAABOA/5gH1U3vwaEA/s1600/021.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="213" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-GZ1F_ULGpJU/UFqK96QLoJI/AAAAAAAABOA/5gH1U3vwaEA/s320/021.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
The lift brings you to their restaurant Lattitude 44, which serves lunch daily. Normally I would bring a picnic lunch, but our traveling companion convinced me that eating at the restaurant was part of the experience. The food was good ( hot dogs, grilled veggie sandwich, burgers, etc.) but pricey - well it is operated by the Mt. Washington Resort! There was no children's menu so my two shared an $8 hotdog! Now, in defense of the hotdog, it had to be a one-pounder and was perfect for them to share and you couldn't beat the view you had with your meal.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-tykpGWIiI5o/UFqLK8zAKRI/AAAAAAAABOI/KpMyMxQYDvs/s1600/027.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-tykpGWIiI5o/UFqLK8zAKRI/AAAAAAAABOI/KpMyMxQYDvs/s320/027.JPG" width="213" /></a></div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<br />
<br />
After lunch my two loved exploring the summit while we soaked up the sunshine and the amazing views. I love watching my two enjoying the simple things - running, enjoying being outside, and entertaining themselves.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-tBGIgGVhick/UFqLjFHG6BI/AAAAAAAABOc/veEAqQl7Zug/s1600/037.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-tBGIgGVhick/UFqLjFHG6BI/AAAAAAAABOc/veEAqQl7Zug/s320/037.JPG" width="213" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
It was a gorgeous day to just enjoy the day and this special place.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-k2ftmGu-KWk/UFqLWe1mdLI/AAAAAAAABOU/wOhqqmHHiNY/s1600/034.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-k2ftmGu-KWk/UFqLWe1mdLI/AAAAAAAABOU/wOhqqmHHiNY/s320/034.JPG" width="213" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
I really think the time exploring at the summit - running free and finding natural treasures was even more enjoyed then the actual chair life ride up and down. After a couple of hours up top we had sun-kissed happy children.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-7N4yQTGMht0/UFqLuNsbGgI/AAAAAAAABOk/-yXP-GW2qrk/s1600/043.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-7N4yQTGMht0/UFqLuNsbGgI/AAAAAAAABOk/-yXP-GW2qrk/s320/043.JPG" width="213" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
On our ride back down the mountain we noticed Kinderwoods Playground - a fabulous area for little ones- at the base near the lodge. I was surprised my two still had more energy to explore! They loved the gondola, child size zip line and large wooden play structure. It was a fabulous summer day exploring a new area - and doing it for FREE!</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Now we'll have to come back when the snow is falling for a winter adventure too!</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

I love the cool crisp air, outdoor activities, the harvest, pumpkin picking, tractor rides and all the fun that comes with the season. <a href="http://www.shermanfarmnh.com/wordpress/maize/">Sherman Farm</a> has managed to take everything fall and compile it into their farm courtyard with corn maze.<br />
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-vP6eP2eZ9TM/UFcKb--PXYI/AAAAAAAABLY/Rhu2Sgkvwmg/s1600/024.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-vP6eP2eZ9TM/UFcKb--PXYI/AAAAAAAABLY/Rhu2Sgkvwmg/s320/024.JPG" width="213" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
The farm offers, easily, 2+ hours of family fun. We spent 3.5 hours there this past weekend and only left to fit in that ever so important nap time! Normally, we travel the 1.5 hours to visit however (totally worth it) however,since we've been in the area for a week this year we lucked out with only a 15 minute drive. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Admission is $6 for the courtyard, $9 for courtyard and large maze. Children 2 and under are free. We opt for the courtyard only. There is more than enough to do and it includes a mini maze which is perfect for our little two.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-4TFDMDp2WJQ/UFcLEFYt4LI/AAAAAAAABME/dhiNUVobsW0/s1600/044.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-4TFDMDp2WJQ/UFcLEFYt4LI/AAAAAAAABME/dhiNUVobsW0/s320/044.JPG" width="213" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
This year's newest attraction was the jumping pillow - the little ones loved it! It was just like jumping on a bed - even adults can take a try!</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-O0WFnVX532Q/UFcKDyv4SdI/AAAAAAAABK8/RFWFJbwSL78/s1600/005.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-O0WFnVX532Q/UFcKDyv4SdI/AAAAAAAABK8/RFWFJbwSL78/s320/005.JPG" width="213" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
A favorite was the cow train ride. I can remember the first year we came and the OWL was only 13 months old. My poor DH had to wedge himself in with the OWL to ride.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-eiKup2ABVtk/UFcKT0rnLPI/AAAAAAAABLM/OxsLntnHuAY/s1600/020.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="213" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-eiKup2ABVtk/UFcKT0rnLPI/AAAAAAAABLM/OxsLntnHuAY/s320/020.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
The corn cannon was a big hit with not only OWL, but also the DH. With admission we each received a token which was good for 3 shots - normally these are 3 shots for a $1.00. Even though the DH was VERY focused and VERY serious about his corn cannon skills, it was the OWL who hit a target and won a prize!</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-fBMBTrmWRIY/UFcKL_I7i7I/AAAAAAAABLE/B6hj67ouKNU/s1600/009.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="213" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-fBMBTrmWRIY/UFcKL_I7i7I/AAAAAAAABLE/B6hj67ouKNU/s320/009.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Another new adventure is the gravy train. This tractor ride goes around the farm with no stops - a perfect option for those that want to avoid the pumpkin patch. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Of course, if you want to hit the pumpkin patch ( pumpkins are 45/55 cents per lb depending on weight) the big tractor ride is for you!</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-bl5MsVsY7k0/UFcLkUwsVpI/AAAAAAAABMs/3U6EdOtBwXc/s1600/073.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="212" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-bl5MsVsY7k0/UFcLkUwsVpI/AAAAAAAABMs/3U6EdOtBwXc/s320/073.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
And there are plenty of pumpkins, of all sizes, to pick from!</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-sPZHeZyt8R4/UFcLsnm4MYI/AAAAAAAABM0/qEz9mLrDORY/s1600/084.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-sPZHeZyt8R4/UFcLsnm4MYI/AAAAAAAABM0/qEz9mLrDORY/s320/084.JPG" width="213" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
One of the simplest activities, but one loved the most is the corn bin. There are two - one for babies/toddlers and one for older kids. My two loved pouring, scooping, and burying each other!</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-_Bo6k5dTS80/UFcLba29vCI/AAAAAAAABMg/lLkTQaUM_zk/s1600/064.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="213" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-_Bo6k5dTS80/UFcLba29vCI/AAAAAAAABMg/lLkTQaUM_zk/s320/064.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
A farm visit isn't a farm visit without a petting zoo! Feed is available (25 cents) to feed the cows, goats, and pigs!</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-SSpSyEPSMUQ/UFcK723i5hI/AAAAAAAABL8/BjIqImPlRFQ/s1600/040.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="213" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-SSpSyEPSMUQ/UFcK723i5hI/AAAAAAAABL8/BjIqImPlRFQ/s320/040.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
There are also lots of great photo spots while on the farm!</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-KEwetB6NDhA/UFcK0KB2R2I/AAAAAAAABL0/zc8PZCgwajA/s1600/032.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="213" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-KEwetB6NDhA/UFcK0KB2R2I/AAAAAAAABL0/zc8PZCgwajA/s320/032.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Of course, all of this outdoor fun is sure to make you hungry! There are plenty of picnic tables to either enjoy your own lunch or to purchase some of the yummy food the farm has to offer. This year they had kettle corn, cider doughnuts, burgers, hotdogs, fries, chicken tenders and more to choose from!</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
So, whether you're five minutes away or have a longer drive, the trip to Sherman Farms is well worth it. It is well cared for, well organized place that is fall fun for the whole family! </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

After the success of our first exchange we were excited to get a second one on the books. My two little ones have LOVED all of their felt food and I love that I only have to master one food, but receive 9 different kinds in return. The possibilities for felt food are endless and luckily there are many tutorials online to help. I've posted many felt food ideas on my <a href="http://pinterest.com/hleandro/felt-food/">Pinterest board</a>.<br />
<br />

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
We had the same rules of our last <a href="http://snowangelsandpuddlejumpers.blogspot.com/search/label/felt%20food">swap</a> and again we had another successful swap.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Not all of us are sewers - some of us sew with a machine, some "sew" with hot glue, and then there are the few who are amazing hand stitches, but at the end of the day we all produce fun food, made with love.</div>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Before the swap was over we were already planning our next felt food swap! We have one planned prior to Christmas - felt food will make fabulous gifts! We also decided to host a felt activity where mamas can make any learning activity as long as it is created from felt. I can't wait to see everyone's creation. We may be going felt crazy here!</div>

Now that the weather is cooler, we've started up our weekly hikes with friends. Luckily, we live in an area that is full of great places to hike with little ones. This week we explored the <b><a href="http://www.nae.usace.army.mil/recreati/ffd/ffdhome.htm">Franklin Falls Dam</a></b> area.</div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-iVh321X_DpQ/UFFFqjQRanI/AAAAAAAABIg/OSYsa2KduUE/s1600/2012-09-07+12.30.12.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-iVh321X_DpQ/UFFFqjQRanI/AAAAAAAABIg/OSYsa2KduUE/s320/2012-09-07+12.30.12.jpg" width="238" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<br />
We parked by the ranger station, which is past the first parking lot and through the gate. Across from the ranger station is a good sized playground with many picnic tables and bathrooms!<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-wy1LFDefybc/UFFFytyV1aI/AAAAAAAABIo/OOlqD1N3ozs/s1600/2012-09-07+12.13.57.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="238" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-wy1LFDefybc/UFFFytyV1aI/AAAAAAAABIo/OOlqD1N3ozs/s320/2012-09-07+12.13.57.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<br />
Originally my thought was to hike the Piney Point Trail. However, after talking to the rangers I decided to save this for another day. We had a large group hiking with many new children ( many 2 -3 years old) and I didn't want to tackle more then we could handle. The Piney Point Trail is just about 2 miles long and has a steep decline ( which you need to make back up at the end!!) before it levels off.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-VJUvbALhLWE/UFEvUK72oyI/AAAAAAAABGw/RvUctiSRaJY/s1600/map.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="207" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-VJUvbALhLWE/UFEvUK72oyI/AAAAAAAABGw/RvUctiSRaJY/s320/map.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
We decided to venture down the Coleman Road - a wide logging road to the start of the Whaleback Trail. The Whaleback Trail was a fabulous trail for the little ones. It meandered through the woods, was level and free of trail obstacles ( ie. rocks, roots, etc.).<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-_cWQax_JKis/UFFF7MvMjAI/AAAAAAAABIw/9c5XiQCLp54/s1600/2012-09-07+10.40.10.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-_cWQax_JKis/UFFF7MvMjAI/AAAAAAAABIw/9c5XiQCLp54/s320/2012-09-07+10.40.10.jpg" width="238" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
It did have some large rock outcroppings that the little ones loved stopping at for a snack and then using it as a natural slide. </div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-fgqKENpmenI/UFFGNmzF4LI/AAAAAAAABI4/96Kx2MfwTGo/s1600/2012-09-07+10.20.23.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-fgqKENpmenI/UFFGNmzF4LI/AAAAAAAABI4/96Kx2MfwTGo/s320/2012-09-07+10.20.23.jpg" width="238" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
Once at the end we returned, via Coleman Road back to the playground area for lunch and some more play time!</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
The Park Rangers had also suggested Sniper Trail as a good suggestion for our little ones. It has a bit more of an elevation ( read some uphills and downhills). We really enjoyed this area and it proved to be a fun morning out for us, so we may have to give Sniper Trail a try next time.</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
Of course, before you leave the area, be sure to drive past the Ranger Station and over the dam. My two loved that. There are even picnic tables on the other side of the dam.</div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

And man, oh man did I hear about him - there are tons of stories about him, many from adults my age that took lessons 30 years ago from him!!.<br />
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
I've tried finding out about this mystery man and his swim program by using whitepages.com and google - I found out he is in Sandwich and that his name is Mr. Switzer, but that was all. Until, at a hike/swim play date I began talking about swim lessons to a mom who's sons all go to him. SCORE - I was able to get his coveted phone number!<br />
<br />
By the time I finally called Mr. Switzer it was the weekend before his first session starting. ( He runs three two-week sessions each summer). Our conversation lasted 25 minutes, he spoke 23 minutes of the 25 we were on the phone. Clearly, he has a routine that works for him and you can either follow his rules or swim elsewhere. I liked his fortitude, we were in.<br />
<br />
(<b>FYI </b>- It clearly states on their brochure they have NO interest in teaching children less then 3.5 years old.)<br />
<br />
I was told to send my check out ASAP and that my spot wouldn't be held until the money was in hand. I sent out my check, two days later I received their simplistic brochure. It clearly stated what they WILL do and what parents WILL and WON'T do. It clearly stated, it is a privilege to watch your child's lesson however, if you interfere or are a distraction you will be asked to leave - this man means business.<br />
<br />
I had NO idea what to expect. As we were coming down a quaint road past Squam Lake cars begin appearing, parked on the side of the road, in a small parking lot right off the road, and some in a large field. We parked and headed to the pool, on a knoll, in a pristine back yard.<br />
<br />
As we entered the fenced pool area I was AMAZED. Inside the pool were 4 classes, each with 5 children and 2 adult teachers all happening simultaneously. Everyone was focused and working. Around the pool there about 25-30 plastic chairs filled with parents, with overflow parents and children on beach towels and blankets. Some classes ended on the quarter hour - kids finished lessons, new groups entered the water, and the kids in the half hour classes still remained focused and working. My son hadn't even entered the water yet and I was won over. It was SO evident this man had a well-tuned swim lesson machine happening here.<br />
<br />
For two weeks, we spent every day from 10:30 -11:00 in Sandwich for OWL's swim lesson. I learned that there were parents, who now were taking their children to lessons, after they had taken lessons there themselves, as a child. There were people, who live out of state, and arrange their two week summer vacation around the session their child gets into. People came from Lincoln, Woodstock, Rumney, Conway - obviously good news travels fast in these parts.<br />
<br />
The two weeks were full of repetition, physical manipulation of students bodies so they could feel how leg kicks and arm strokes felt, modeling, practicing....and then repeat.<br />
<br />
Leg kicks were a HUGE focus in the beginner one lesson. For this I was happy. After each session of swim class at our local swim club I'm told OWL needs to learn how to kick from his hip with straight legs. Luckily, in the short 30 minute lesson OWL had either Mr. Switzer or his helper moving his legs 3- 5 times. <br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-XkMCtebDBVY/UCVaZnmhw4I/AAAAAAAABD4/LNWGlRQfOV8/s1600/012.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="213" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-XkMCtebDBVY/UCVaZnmhw4I/AAAAAAAABD4/LNWGlRQfOV8/s320/012.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
There were no bubbles, rings, or any other devices used in this class. You are learning survival swimming here. No goggles either, face in the water, and eyes OPEN! It is stated in the brochure if your child doesn't or refuses to put his face in the water and he is 8 years or older, he will be asked to leave - with no refund! Lessons here take place rain or shine! Luckily, OWL loves the water!</div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-VPplpxOQpEE/UCVakj2C3lI/AAAAAAAABEA/2hDH5of__7k/s1600/013.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="213" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-VPplpxOQpEE/UCVakj2C3lI/AAAAAAAABEA/2hDH5of__7k/s320/013.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
As strict as the expectations were, if the task was completed successfully praise was given! I love it - no empty praise here. Earn it and you shall receive it - don't earn it, try harder next time! </div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-mLD4wVHuO-U/UCVawaxKDEI/AAAAAAAABEI/Lu7y_6eHBsE/s1600/014.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="213" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-mLD4wVHuO-U/UCVawaxKDEI/AAAAAAAABEI/Lu7y_6eHBsE/s320/014.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
OWL learned to swim, with proper arm stroke and leg kicks, all by himself. I wish I had the camera the day he jumped from the diving board and swam to the side ladder on his own! Now that was impressive!<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-eiQfAtNKcAY/UCVbVFIs2pI/AAAAAAAABEk/WqqLLFumWKA/s1600/017.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="213" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-eiQfAtNKcAY/UCVbVFIs2pI/AAAAAAAABEk/WqqLLFumWKA/s320/017.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
After his last lesson Mr. Switzer let everyone wipe their hands off on his towel before he handed out certificate cards. Look at OWL's face. He was in awe! Owl loved this man! As he simply stated one night at dinner, "Mama, if you listen to what Mr. Switzer says and do it, he won't yell at you." " Crying only makes it worse." Well said, my little one, he obviously, "got it".<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>

Look at the joy on his face after receiving his 3 X 5 inch certification card. Pure joy for such a simple reward! However, was the reward just he simple card? No, it went much deeper then that. It was working hard, staying focused, doing what you are asked, and knowing in the end you did it, you earned it, you accomplished it! I know this sounds so cheesey, but these were two life changing weeks for my OWL.<br />

He really enjoyed the lessons, but most of all Mr. Switzer left a mark on this little guys life. He had to make him a special card and a sweet little swimming teacher gift. It warmed my heart that Mr. Switzer took the time to actually sit down and look at OWL's card and ask him about it! Owl was glowing!<br />

<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
A few years back I acquired a large roll of butcher paper. This paper has served many purposes: table coverings, blank canvases for many art projects, etc. However, my favorite use of this paper is to create homemade wrapping paper. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Ever since the Owl has been old enough to hold a <a href="http://www.discountschoolsupply.com/Product/ProductDetail.aspx?product=29354&es=237530000ESC&utm_source=CSE&utm_medium=weblink&utm_campaign=froogle&cvsfa=408&cvsfe=2&cvsfhu=3239333534&gclid=CLyI4YbkqrECFUff4AoddW0AmA">Do-A Dot</a> marker he's been decorating the wrapping paper for all his friend's gifts. Using do-a dots, crayons, stickers, markers, even paint we've decorated one of kind wrapping paper to adorn our gifts. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
This morning, the Owl surprised me with actually drawing a race car for his friend. He spent about 30 minutes creating his masterpiece, of which he is so proud. I know he will be delivering his present with a huge smile on his face today!!</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-XxaFxotuTAA/UAqhPPwWs9I/AAAAAAAABAY/WQ7-TNmnXMg/s1600/001.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-XxaFxotuTAA/UAqhPPwWs9I/AAAAAAAABAY/WQ7-TNmnXMg/s320/001.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Rolls of paper can be purchased at any school supply or office supply company. However, if you have paper mills near by you may want to contact them to see if they would donate remnants, scraps or overstock to you! </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
If you don't have any butcher paper on hand, recycling brown paper bags from the grocery store works well too!</div>

We've had a week of very hot and humid days, but luckily today was a perfect day for an outdoor adventure. We headed north to Quincy Bog in Rumney, just about 10 minutes off of Tenney Mountain Highway in Plymouth. What a fabulous find! Part of the adventure, which my two loved, was crossing NH Covered Bridge #44, <a href="http://www.nhtourguide.com/covered_bridges/smith_bridge_plymouth_nh.htm">Smith Covered Bridge </a> over the Baker River on our way there.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Information ( trail maps, nature programs, flora/fauna guides, directions) about the Bog can be found <a href="http://www.quincybog.org/">here</a>. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
At the parking lot was an information board chuck full of interesting facts about the bog. Recent animal, flora and fauna sightings were listed as were maps, wildlife guides, etc. Looking at the information board at the trail head has become quite popular with our little group!</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-n4-Dm4yY158/UAn7rT-pDnI/AAAAAAAAA90/7CyOk4ISekY/s1600/002.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-n4-Dm4yY158/UAn7rT-pDnI/AAAAAAAAA90/7CyOk4ISekY/s320/002.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
<div style="text-align: center;">
Around our very first corner of the hike, brought flashbacks to a recent hike where Sassy Sis ended up in the marshlands. Ahead of us, as far as the eye could see, were planks crossing over outlying parts of the Bog.</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-hGYSSMZTilA/UAn77xdk1jI/AAAAAAAAA98/Md5WhV9u17k/s1600/003.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-hGYSSMZTilA/UAn77xdk1jI/AAAAAAAAA98/Md5WhV9u17k/s320/003.JPG" width="240" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Luckily, Sassy Sis stayed on the planks, bridges, and walkways - which made up at least 50% of the hike. She's learning and ALL of the helpful reminders from her hiking friends helped her as well, I'm sure.</div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-YnhYsz9QghU/UAn8LM48kSI/AAAAAAAAA-E/8uM2aVel3n0/s1600/004.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-YnhYsz9QghU/UAn8LM48kSI/AAAAAAAAA-E/8uM2aVel3n0/s320/004.JPG" width="240" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
The walk here was easy. It was just over a mile and level ( aka flat) the whole way. It made for a nice leisurely walk which resulted in our little one really taking notice of the plants and animals living in this environment.</div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-Jow0D3N9GV0/UAn8ZVPE3BI/AAAAAAAAA-M/Ld7nSuoBNW8/s1600/005.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-Jow0D3N9GV0/UAn8ZVPE3BI/AAAAAAAAA-M/Ld7nSuoBNW8/s320/005.JPG" width="240" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
<div style="text-align: center;">
Sassy Sis made sure to keep us on the blue trail at all times. The trail loops around the bog, beginning and ending at the simple/barebones nature center.</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<br />
<div style="text-align: center;">
Tadpoles, bull frogs, water bugs, water lilies, and beaver chomped tree stumps were all noticed today!</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
The kids liked seeing that we were walking around in a circle, around the outside of the bog. </div>

<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
Once back at the nature center - we went inside to see some simple displays of the animals and plants which call this habitat home. The numerous pairs of binoculars were VERY popular. The little ones enjoyed watching a great blue heron in the middle of the bog. They also enjoyed getting a closer look at the beaver lodge!</div>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Overall, Quincy Bog was a fabulous walk out in nature with our little ones. All of the different animals and plants kept their attention and peaked their curiosity. The planks, boardwalks, and wooden bridges also made it an exciting area to explore. We'll definitely be back! </div>

For the past two weeks we've been studying the letter F. </div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
( A post is coming soon with all of our F activities). Of course, we needed to have a themed sensory tote to go with our letter study. Even though most of our letter F study centered around Fire/fireman - I knew that a farm sensory tote would be very welcomed and let's not overlook the fact that it was easy for me to put together!!</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
Here it us our $3 Farm Sensory Tote.....</div>

It was the perfect place to get out in the woods for a bit. All of our little ones weren't on their "A" game today. After a week of late nights due to fireworks, family and friends visiting, and the craizness of summer days, they were all a bit tired. Luckily, Hamlin Park, is mostly a stroll through the woods, which was just what we needed today.<br />
<br />
We did the blue loop trail. It was a mostly level 1.2 mile walk through the woods. Information, including a color coded map with explanations on each trail, can be found <a href="http://meredithnh.org/pdfdocs/Hamlin%20and%20Eames%20Trails%20Open%20to%20Public%20Use.pdf">here</a>. There were also printed maps available at the trialhead.<br />
<br />

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
The trail had lots of great bridges - of which the Sassy Sis fell off of NONE! In fact, she stayed on the path and was in the same condition at the end of the hike as she was at the beginning. Some of my friends say I should take a prehike photo of Sis and then another picture at the end of the hike. Usually, she is disshelved, bowless, and covered in mud/muck at the end of the hike. Today, she just ended bowless. Ahh, maybe my little girl is finally growing up some and learning to stay on the path!!</div>

<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
There were lots of great climbing rocks for the Owl and his buddy P - or Super Girl and Super Boy - as they were referring to each other today! </div>

The trail was well maintained. There were some muddy areas, but most of them had sturdy wooden bridges over them. They were well marked as well. In fact Sassy Sis was able to help us keep on the blue trail - our trail of choice today.</div>

There were lots of other trails, to many different ecosystems. We will definitely need to go back again to explore more of the area. It truly is the perfect place for little ones to explore!</div>

Since our busy bag exchange was such a success, I offered to organize and host the swap.<br />
<br />
What's a craft bag? Simply, it is a prepped craft in a ziploc bag, pretty simple, right? Each mama had to select a craft, prep all the materials for the craft, and assemble a ziploc bag with: picture of finished craft, directions, and materials.<br />
<br />
We had 18 mamas sign up and a total of 22 craft bags. Some of us mamas with two children decided to do two different bags, so we could collect two of each bag at the exchange. That way each of our children would have a bag when it came time to crafting.<br />
<br />
<div style="text-align: center;">
<b>The rules were simple:</b> </div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
1. Pick a craft </div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
2. Compile and prep all of the materials you will need for this craft. </div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
3. Put materials and directions ( which includes a photo of the finished product) in a ziploc bag.</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
4. Make the same bag for each participant in our exchange. </div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
5. Make the quality of bag you would like to receive in return.
</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
As a group we decided that crayons, colored pencils, glue, and scissors would NOT be supplied in bags - all other items needed for the craft would need to be included in the bag.</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
The swap went off without a hitch! Everyone showed up and everyone made high quality bags. Everyone also made an extra bag for a dear friend who is going through treatment for chronic Lyme Disease. (See her story<a href="http://andreabeatslyme.wordpress.com/"> here.</a> ) These are the bags I ended up with! WOW....that is a lot of fun art activities to do with the little ones this summer! </div>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
I started a Craft Bag Exchange board on <a href="http://pinterest.com/hleandro/craft-bag-exchange/">Pinterest. </a> Some, but not all of the ideas for the craft bags came from there. I have lots of other crafts on other boards, too that would work well for this!</div>

Here's each bag from our swap, with a link ( if available) to a full tutorial! Enjoy!</div>

My family has always been cake snobs. Even after moving to New Hampshire we would always have a family member transport up the cake, for any special occasion, from our favorite bakery in Rhode Island. We could never find a bakery that could even come close to their quality, until we met LaShunda of Ooo La La Creative Cakes. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
LaShunda's cakes are not only delicious, but they are true works of art. She is truly a master at her trade and she has single-handedly made my 3.5 year old into a cake snob. He can scope out a La La cake at any party and he is definitely her youngest, but biggest fan. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
You can check out her creations at www.ooolalacreativecakes.com or on her FB page <a href="https://www.facebook.com/lala2330">here</a>. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Our latest cake from La La was Emmaline's birthday cake. A delicious vanilla cake with cream cheese filling and fresh strawberries. Have I mentioned La La makes the world's best buttercream? You can give La La any theme for your celebration and she will be able to outdo all of your expectations. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
La Shunda offers cake decorating parties - for both women and kids. We hosted a kid's cake decorating class for some of our friends. LaShunda brings a 4 inch cupcake for each child to decorate. Each cake, chocolate or vanilla, was covered on the sides with fondant and topped with the her delicious buttercream. The cost for each child to participate is $10. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
LaShunda explained to the kids how to decorate their cake. They had edible food markers as well as gel food coloring to paint their cakes. <br />

The little ones really were excited to decorate their cake and they both did a fabulous job! They were so proud of their finished products. Of course they all wanted to be able to dig in to enjoy their creations!</div>
